My Author Page

Great news! Spirited has officially launched as an e-book on Amazon.  With it I have created an AUTHOR PAGE with my profile and pic. I'm pretty hyped and ready to add "Shifters" as soon as it's ready.  My cover art is in the works.  It's like Christmas, but it's Halloween so even better!

The intrusion of a new character

art by
Have you ever had a character invade your mind while working on something completely different?  I've had that happen to me recently with "Evelyn of the Sea" and this is what went down.  I dreamed her into existence.  Maybe she invented herself.  When I awoke I drew a quick sketch of her and jotted down a page full of tidbits, then I put it aside to focus on my "homework"(edits and promos for upcoming release of "Shifters", edits and promo for "Aftermath" in the Spirited Anthology, crit group, NaNoWriMo, wife, mother etc.). Still in my spare brain creativity I would think about Evelyn and where she should go and how she handles trouble.  This is how I know she'll be a great character because I can't get her out of my mind.  By the time my edits and dew dates are over with, I'll have the whole plot outline in my head, ready to go.  I also get to do a bunch of steampunk research which is a great excuse to buy some books!  If you haven't seen the movie "Steam Boy" I highly recommend it.

National Novel Writing Month

I left a comment over at the Critique Sisters last week, giving some advice about participating in NaNoWriMo.  I thought I would tell you what I said, so those of you who are thinking of participating can see where I stand on the issue.  I am somewhere in between plotting an outline for the whole novel or flying by the seat of my pants. I know my main theme, setting and characters. I know what the trigger is to set actions in motion. Then I write and don't stop. I write whatever comes into my head. If I get stuck I say to myself, "just write something down now." NaNoWriMo isn't about writing the perfect book. It's about getting your word count. Fix it later. I usually edit as I go, which means it takes me years to write a book. If it wasn't for NaNoWriMo, I might not ever finish it.

So I'm really looking forward to winning again this year.  Of course, I'm supposed to be editing Shifters at the same time, and if I can't do both, NaNo will have to go. Still, I encourage everyone to sign up, do your best, and reap the benefits of obsessive marathon writing.
Concerning the Shakespeare Undead contest I only had ONE person apply.  Quite a change from Banned Books Week.  So congrats to  Deranged Pegasusfor really really wanting a controversial book.  It's yours.

Spirited Anthology

So! I have a story in the upcoming ghost anthology by Leap Books.  I'm excited because one of my favorite authors and friend, Judith Graves has a series called SKINNED published through them.  She is in the anthology as well.  If you would like to win a copy of Spirited, go visit Bridge Social Media and decipher the clues about each author and you could win one of 13 copies for Halloween.  Remember, I will be one of them, so I should be easy to guess right?

Here is my blurb about "Aftermath" to get you interested:
Lenora has a strong link to her ancestors.  They haunt her through terrifying dreams and visions.  On top of facing her own problems like moving away to college, leaving her family, her job, and her boyfriend, she is driven to solve an old family mystery before it ruins her mind.
And if that's not incentive enough, all proceeds will be donated to 826 National. 826 offers free after-school tutoring, workshops, and in-school programs because they believe that "strong writing skills are fundamental to future success."

P.S. My contest for Shakespeare Undead is still on until the weekend, so sign up for that too!
